How far have we really come ?

On  our last blog discussion we were  talking about racism in classrooms and how it affects pupils and parents as well. Well today we are discussing how far have we really come from the era were the was a blacks only/ white only disposition from have we really changed from the youth of 1976 or there hasn‘t been much change?
Although we have come long way as a nation and we still claim that we are a free and equal nation how true is that? I have come across some many instances where students have not been accepted in different institutions because of their skin color, take for an instance Stellenbosch university which uses Afrikaans as a language of teaching at the institution, I mean what does that say about the status quo in institutions like these should not be accepted by anyone for that matter it is surprising how our government accepts that.

The problem with society that we live in today is that we are so ignorant that we’d rather turn a blind eye to what’s going than face the problems head on I don’t know whether we are fearful  of reliving history or just plain ignorant either way these kind of actions must be stopped, few weeks back I felt so proud to be young when we stood together as the youth and fought for a greater good the #feesmustfall campaign that saw students all over the world standing together.  As much as this phrase has been overused but it is true that if we could all stand together there is nothing we couldn’t achieve we just need to persevere and not scared that easily because nothing worth having comes easy in this life time we just have to have the willingness to try because that’s all that matters, behind all the violence and hatred in this world are humans with souls and I believe you can touch anyone because even the meanest of souls have something that hits close to home and that’s the place we need to reach and stop RACISM , so young black men and young black women take your  places and let your voices be heard by the masses, it might not be today it might not be tomorrow but one day I believe we will be able to reach the other side of the fence where the grass is greener and the sun sets, but for now let us fight this so feared epidemic that has crushed souls that left our mothers and fathers minds scarred let us write the wrongs written by apartheid and are infiltrated in our minds that it has always been the norm.

In the words of a great musician and a beautiful soul Bob Marley “Emancipate yourself from mental slavery”.  With those words I leave you with the hopes that these words linger in your minds and encourage you to do something.

  1. Bob Marley also has another song. It's lyrics say ''Until the philosophy that holds one race superior and another inferior is finally and permanently discredited and abandoned everywhere it's a war''. I think that as this generation should be hostile to our racist society. White supremecy is a myth that should see its dying days. It will take courage and a lot of determination.
