How far have we really come ?

On  our last blog discussion we were  talking about racism in classrooms and how it affects pupils and parents as well. Well today we are discussing how far have we really come from the era were the was a blacks only/ white only disposition from have we really changed from the youth of 1976 or there hasn‘t been much change?
Although we have come long way as a nation and we still claim that we are a free and equal nation how true is that? I have come across some many instances where students have not been accepted in different institutions because of their skin color, take for an instance Stellenbosch university which uses Afrikaans as a language of teaching at the institution, I mean what does that say about the status quo in institutions like these should not be accepted by anyone for that matter it is surprising how our government accepts that.

The problem with society that we live in today is that we are so ignorant that we’d rather turn a blind eye to what’s going than face the problems head on I don’t know whether we are fearful  of reliving history or just plain ignorant either way these kind of actions must be stopped, few weeks back I felt so proud to be young when we stood together as the youth and fought for a greater good the #feesmustfall campaign that saw students all over the world standing together.  As much as this phrase has been overused but it is true that if we could all stand together there is nothing we couldn’t achieve we just need to persevere and not scared that easily because nothing worth having comes easy in this life time we just have to have the willingness to try because that’s all that matters, behind all the violence and hatred in this world are humans with souls and I believe you can touch anyone because even the meanest of souls have something that hits close to home and that’s the place we need to reach and stop RACISM , so young black men and young black women take your  places and let your voices be heard by the masses, it might not be today it might not be tomorrow but one day I believe we will be able to reach the other side of the fence where the grass is greener and the sun sets, but for now let us fight this so feared epidemic that has crushed souls that left our mothers and fathers minds scarred let us write the wrongs written by apartheid and are infiltrated in our minds that it has always been the norm.

In the words of a great musician and a beautiful soul Bob Marley “Emancipate yourself from mental slavery”.  With those words I leave you with the hopes that these words linger in your minds and encourage you to do something.

When we think of racism it never crosses your mind that it something that takes place in an learning environment where learners are suppose to be taught between right and wrong, it's gob smacking to think that there is non equality in classrooms because of color and race  one would think that it is a thing of the past. A classroom is a place where a child is suppose to nurtured and molded but instead they are broken down to the core of their skin color how is the generation of tomorrow suppose to survive in society like this?. First things first i am root of a born free generation whose ancestors where deprived of their rights of education and when granted to them it was Bantu education which was more or less gibberish if you ask me,letting such issues take place in our classrooms is unacceptable to the say the least.  About a month ago a white teacher called a black parent "uncivilized" what does that say about the teachers who are suppose to remove remove such thoughts in pupil's minds, Bob Marley once said "emancipate yourself from mental" slavery but the way things are going on in our nation kids are imprisoned in their minds and way of thinking .

The society needs to learn that we will no longer sit on the sidelines and watch ourselves being labelled in an unruly manner of racism and inequality in a teaching space, we are all children of the same soil strip away all the color and hate speech we are all united by one thing the right to life therefore the right to one's  freedom and that should not even discussed the fact that people need to prove their capability because of their skin is unacceptable our nation and government needs to realize the immense pressure  learners face in general and now for them to be constantly oppressed that could have been accepted in the apartheid regime but not now and it starts with one person standing up and speaking it's up to me and you to make this world a better place for our young brothers and sisters so that one day they don't have to go through that depressing phase. Children commit suicide because of racial comments at school they are scared to go to school because of their skin color, even by saying that out loud sounds hideous this is the kind of behavior is the kind that makes kids ashamed of their skin color or hair or the way the way they talk and end losing their sense of being and losing touch with their roots, no one should ever tell you who you are define yourself. Stand out from the crowd it's makes you special you are who you and where you are for a reason do not ever doubt yourself. Love yourself and everyone else will it doesn't matter what someone else thinks.

We need to stand up to such behavior my brothers and sisters it's starts with me and you believing in what's change comes with the will try we may not succeed the first time but we'll get up and try again because we have a long way to give up the revolution continues everyday we wake a struggle.
